Bellator MMA Inks Light Heavyweight Ace Liam McGeary to Long-Term Deal

Bellator MMA has come to a multi-fight, long-term agreement with its light heavyweight champion, Liam McGeary. Details of the contract were not released in an email blast sent to mixed martial arts media Monday afternoon.

“I'm excited to have signed this contract extension with Bellator,” said McGeary. “I know that I've got a target on my back as Champion, but I've never been one to walk away from a fight. Whoever Scott Coker decides to put across the cage from me next, it doesn't matter. To me, their name might as well be 'Victory #11'. I look forward to working with Coker and Spike TV for years to come.”

The undefeated British knockout artist’s rise to prominence has been spectacular, reeling off a 10-0 professional record that includes nine finishes: five by knockout and four via submission.

The 32-year-old is 7-0 within the Bellator promotion, and became its champion with an impressive unanimous decision over former 205-pound champ Emanuel Newton on Feb. 27. It is the only time McGeary has heard the judges’ scorecards read in his career.
